Lyon is a good base to explore the region: Beaujolais vineyards, Pérouges or day trips to the Alps.

Best areas to stay in Lyon

Presqu'île

Ideal for: first visit, shopping, couples

The heart of the city between the two rivers: squares, shops, restaurants and easy access to everything else. The most versatile choice.

Vieux-Lyon (Old Lyon)

Ideal for: couples, history lovers

A Renaissance district of cobbled lanes and traboules at the foot of Fourvière. Charming but very touristy during the day.

Croix-Rousse

Ideal for: local life, longer stays

The former silk workers' district, with a village feel and a well-known market. On a hill: steep climbs, but the metro serves the plateau.

Part-Dieu

Ideal for: business trips, arriving by train, budget

Around the main TGV station and shopping centre: very practical to arrive and leave, less charming for strolling.
